News 2025.07 - Buffer stops for H0e/009

Buy three, pay two!

Everything has an end, only the model railway layout often has quite a few track ends! In order to do justice to the variety and without claiming to be complete, we present around 20 (!) different, mainly H0e buffer stops!

Austria is a country of narrow gauge railways. Each federal state has or had its own lines, most of which were or still are under their own administration. It is therefore not surprising that the individuality of these lines continues right to their outermost ends and that each has its own typical buffer stop. In the good old days, the buffer stops were welded together from old rail sections. The basic construction is always the same, simple and effective. But each station has adapted the buffer stop a little.

With the construction of new stations or their modernisation, modern buffer stops have also been introduced. Here, too, a common basic design was chosen, but the adaptations are much more extensive than with the old design. Thanks to modern production methods, many more buffer stops can now be offered. Almost one for every station, sometimes even more ... without any claim to completeness, there is already something for everyone. Thanks to the detail-focussed hobby of one of our employees, new models are constantly being added and are still waiting to be realised. The range will certainly be expanded in the coming months.

The first electric trams! The first Vienna tram line to be electrified by the Vienna Tramway Company (WT) was the ‘Northern Transversal Line’. This was a combination of sections previously operated as horse-drawn tramways, which Viennese people today associate with parts of lines 2, 5, or O. The prerequisite for the conversion was the construction of the Leopoldstadt power station, which initially supplied the necessary energy.

    2025-10-16

Improved new edition of a legend! When it became apparent in the 1970s that freight and passenger transport on the StLB would have to be separated in order to reduce journey times, the management of the state railways decided to develop a railcar with diesel-electric power transmission. The contract for its manufacture was awarded to the Vienna-based company Knotz, which at that time was known for producing custom designs in rail vehicle construction, even in small quantities. The first railcar was delivered to the Murtalbahn in the fall of 1980. Many more examples of this vehicle family were to follow until 1999, going to the StLB, the Zillertalbahn, and the ÖBB.
