Trams Nouvelle Génération!
In April 2023, the ‘Trams Nouvelle Génération’, or TNG, will be on the streets of Brussels, transporting citizens and lobbyists alike to work or pleasure. As the heir to the legendary T3/T4 trams, the TNG was designed as a stylistic evolution of the earlier Brussels vehicles.

Inspired by Art Deco, the new generation of trams aims to raise the aesthetic standard for public transport while unifying the identity of the STIB fleet. The design of the TNGs was entrusted to Axel Enthoven (Yellow Window), who we think has done an exceptionally good job!
The TNG model is produced in Austria by HALLING Modelle. Each model is painstakingly and meticulously printed by hand in countless individual layers, assembled with great care and attention to detail and is therefore in no way inferior to the great role model in terms of presence and design. On the occasion of its second anniversary, we would like to celebrate this fact with you:

The first electric trams!
The first Vienna tram line to be electrified by the Vienna Tramway Company (WT) was the ‘Northern Transversal Line’. This was a combination of sections previously operated as horse-drawn tramways, which Viennese people today associate with parts of lines 2, 5, or O. The prerequisite for the conversion was the construction of the Leopoldstadt power station, which initially supplied the necessary energy.

50 meters long, the new generation of BVG trams clearly outshines all previous vehicles. The new trams – called Urbanliners – are largely produced by Alstom in Bautzen, Saxony. The exemplary models, which are around 57 cm (!) long, are manufactured by the Viennese model railway company HALLING Modelle on the outskirts of Vienna and steal the show from many of the models produced to date!

Improved new edition of a legend!
When it became apparent in the 1970s that freight and passenger transport on the StLB would have to be separated in order to reduce journey times, the management of the state railways decided to develop a railcar with diesel-electric power transmission. The contract for its manufacture was awarded to the Vienna-based company Knotz, which at that time was known for producing custom designs in rail vehicle construction, even in small quantities. The first railcar was delivered to the Murtalbahn in the fall of 1980. Many more examples of this vehicle family were to follow until 1999, going to the StLB, the Zillertalbahn, and the ÖBB.
