News 2025.05 - Urbanliner Berlin

The first new tooling model of the year 2025!

With a length of 50 metres, the new generation of BVG trams clearly outshines all previous vehicles. The new trams - called Urbanliners - are largely produced by Alstom in Bautzen, Saxony. The exemplary 57cm (!) long models are manufactured by the Viennese model railway manufacturer HALLING Modelle on the outskirts of Vienna and steal the show from many of the models produced to date!

The Urbanliners, a further development of the Berlin Flexity, will start passenger service on the M4 in the 1st quarter of 2025. They will gradually replace the double traction trains consisting of two coupled GT6 series trams that have been used there to date. They offer space for up to 312 passengers and a whole host of extras that ensure safety and accessibility and significantly increase the fun of travelling.

The models of the nine-part Berliner are also full of extras, although driving fun is of course the top priority here! The newly developed underfloor drives are used as standard for the first time. Similar to the large prototype, two bogies are directly driven, eliminating the need for cardan shafts. Two high-quality bell-type armature motors drive the models with low maintenance and almost noiselessly. Thanks to a power consumption of over 50 cm in length, the drive is also incredibly stable and powerful.

The six-pole NEM651 digital interface is located under the seat plates of the first gondola, so all cables can be routed completely invisibly through the model. Digitalization ex works is offered, but you can also do it yourself without tools in a minute or two!

The stand models also offered have been designed and manufactured with the same care and high level of detail. HALLING Modelle offers ANT-BX1 motorization kits for retrofitting stand models, which are fully wired and tested and are just waiting for the housing parts of the old model.

As usual with HALLING models, all models are supplied with a very extensive decal sheet behind the glass. This contains several different target plates. Glued from the inside into the target plate boxes and target plate holders provided, they give the models greater depth and thus increase the realism of the model.

It is not without reason that Vienna is very proud of the first, and most likely not the last, new tooling model innovation of 2025. Order your own Urbanliner now and secure yourself a

The first „Salzburger Lokalbahn“! In July 1907, the ‘Rote Elektrische’ (Red Electric) connection from Salzburg Local Railway Station to Drachenloch station was opened, and shortly afterwards the section of the line from the German border was electrified. As early as its first year of operation, 15 passenger cars were in service. However, the city and local railway also always transported goods, especially marble, sand and cement. In the interwar period, a buffet car was even added to increase the attractiveness of the railway.

10% off all drives and components!* When it comes to drive technology for model railways, there is no getting around the deliberately simple HALLING drives. Like no other model railway manufacturer, the company founder Leopold Halling understood the importance of drives and also offered drives from his own models individually. At that time, the company had a handful of different drives that were actually intended to motorise the so-called souvenir models of the Wiener Linien.

Back to the past! In February 2025, the narrow-gauge railway returned to HALLING in the form of two blue Mixnitz electric locomotive models. Today, history takes a step back into the past. The narrow-gauge Mixnitz-St. Erhard line, which is only 11 kilometres long, was built in 1913 as part of the development of the magnesite deposits in Breitenau am Hochlantsch. The two electric locomotives ‘Breitenau’ and ‘Hochlantsch’ with the Bo axle arrangement were delivered by AEG in the same year and used for mixed operation of passenger and goods trains.
