News 2025.09 - The Frist Subway Train

Üstra's first underground train!

Hanover is currently celebrating one anniversary after another. Construction of the Hanover underground began 60 years ago – a project of the century and the largest construction site Hanover has ever seen. Just ten years after construction began, the first train rolled through the underground of the state capital in 1975!

A year earlier, the legendary TW6000 trains had entered service in Hanover for the first time, so it was clear that two of them would also inaugurate the underground Line 12. Leading the way was the TW6002 with the familiar ‘Erdmann’ advertising, coupled in double traction with the TW6010 with ‘Bachmann’ advertising.

To mark this major anniversary year, we are launching a series of five new TW6000 models, which have been developed in close collaboration with Üstra and its passionate employees. If you want them all, you'll have to be patient!

The TW6001 ‘Erdmann’ and TW6010 ‘Bachmann’ models, as well as the former TW6001 driving school car in its neutral design, are available immediately.

The TW6001 model with the current ‘50 Years of Light Rail’ advertising and the TW6002 with the historic Erdmann advertising will only be presented in coordination with Üstra on the anniversary on 21 September. We are of course happy to take your pre-orders and look forward to offering you this colourful bouquet of models!

The first electric trams! The first Vienna tram line to be electrified by the Vienna Tramway Company (WT) was the ‘Northern Transversal Line’. This was a combination of sections previously operated as horse-drawn tramways, which Viennese people today associate with parts of lines 2, 5, or O. The prerequisite for the conversion was the construction of the Leopoldstadt power station, which initially supplied the necessary energy.

    2025-10-16

Improved new edition of a legend! When it became apparent in the 1970s that freight and passenger transport on the StLB would have to be separated in order to reduce journey times, the management of the state railways decided to develop a railcar with diesel-electric power transmission. The contract for its manufacture was awarded to the Vienna-based company Knotz, which at that time was known for producing custom designs in rail vehicle construction, even in small quantities. The first railcar was delivered to the Murtalbahn in the fall of 1980. Many more examples of this vehicle family were to follow until 1999, going to the StLB, the Zillertalbahn, and the ÖBB.
