News 2025.12 - WR4ip/s 5702 „Lebkuchen-Kuchl“
The new Christmas wagon is here!
The Mariazellerbahn buffet car is now an integral part of NÖVOG's ‘Ötscherbär’ adventure train and offers a selection of drinks as well as savoury and sweet dishes from the region. It is included on all ‘Ötscherbär’ journeys and offers refreshments for passengers during the trip to Mariazell.

However, the idea of a buffet car on the Mariazellerbahn is not new. Under the management of the ÖBB in the 1980s, the ÖBB WR4ip/s 5702 was often coupled to the Mh.6 for Advent trips. Under the expert guidance of the Pirker family, young and old alike were able to decorate their own gingerbread, which was then baked in a specially installed oven.
The heavenly scent of gingerbread mingled with the hearty, infamous smell of coal on the Advent train – a real railwayman's Advent! The model of the now discontinued ‘Lebkuchen-Kuchl’ is available in a unique and very limited edition and fits in perfectly with the equally legendary and historically flexible models such as the ‘Vanillekipferl-Express’, the ‘Christkindl-Bimmelbahn’ and the ‘Christkindl-Postamt’.
Of course, the model comes with the recipe for authentic Mariazell gingerbread, so you can easily bring the wonderful atmosphere of the Mariazell Advent trip into your own home!

The Mostviertler has a new showroom!
Our new boss, Mr Joachim Haselmayer, also known as the Mostviertler, had already been running the Mostviertler model railway station very successfully for several decades before he bought a bag of fleas called HALLING Modelle. It started out as a small model railway shop, idyllically located in the old railway station in Wieselburg a.d. Erlauf, but it has long since outgrown its premises.

Nine places – nine treasures, but only one winner!
The Mariazellerbahn is Austria's most beautiful place! In the grand finale of the ORF prime-time show ‘9 Plätze – 9 Schätze’ (9 Places – 9 Treasures) on 25th October 2025, the Mariazellerbahn won the title of ‘Austria's most beautiful place’ for the first time, bringing it to Lower Austria. We congratulate them on their victory, even though we have always known how unique and beautiful Austria's longest narrow-gauge railway is!

The first electric trams!
The first Vienna tram line to be electrified by the Vienna Tramway Company (WT) was the ‘Northern Transversal Line’. This was a combination of sections previously operated as horse-drawn tramways, which Viennese people today associate with parts of lines 2, 5, or O. The prerequisite for the conversion was the construction of the Leopoldstadt power station, which initially supplied the necessary energy.
