News 2025.02 - Grazer Tramway
The first trams in Graz!
The year was 1909, just four to five years after the last horse-drawn trams had been converted to electric multiple units and sidecars, and Grazer Waggon- und Maschinen-Fabriks AG (formerly Johann Weitzer) had just been incorporated! Its first prototypes, the railcars 71 to 76, went into operation after thorough testing, all the lines licensed at the time were completed and the Graz Tramway Company (GTG) received the first electric tramway sets specially manufactured for Graz.

The prototype vehicles of the HALLING models, railcar 87 and its sidecar 71B, date back to the pioneering days of the Graz tramway, when people were still using a plough to build their own trams. They were also the first vehicles to enter service with closed platforms, each offering 18 seats. Like the prototypes, the models also originate from the pioneering days of HALLING Modelle, when the company founder assembled ‘his’ classic cars himself and sold them to the jam-packed public from several different small display cabinets scattered throughout the office.
Some missing components had to be added, but we have managed to put together the very last small series of the original models. As a special offer and in an extremely limited quantity, we are offering the driving and trailer carriages as a set with the matching magnetic couplings at a one-off set price of just € 234.90 instead of € 257.00! Take advantage of this offer and secure a piece of ‘Tramway history’ for yourself.
