The NÖVOG auxiliary train, featuring a new design, was first presented to the public in 2017. Since then, it has served as a mobile workshop, crew accommodation and tool and material storage facility for the team, and is used wherever problems arise along the line. Occasionally, the rescue train is used for track work with the typical three-axle ballast wagons, but most of the time it rushes to its destination on its own.

The work car was converted by NÖVOG from the VT16 (ex ÖBB 5090.16, built in 1991) after 2012 and was initially still in service in the classic ÖBB colours. During the conversion, parts of the original seating were retained, but large areas were cleared and several workbenches, storage cabinets and boxes were installed.

The VT16 auxiliary train models come with their own interior fittings, which reproduce these fixtures in detail. The four characteristic roller shutters that distinguish the auxiliary train from the classic VT16 have also been reproduced in exemplary fashion. These are basically just large openings that facilitate the loading and unloading of material, sleepers and spindle jacks.

All models come with a very comprehensive set of accessories. The new brake resistors on the roof under the roof grille are already pre-installed. The small new edition of the auxiliary train is also state-of-the-art in technical terms, equipped with a new circuit board with a 6-pin NEM651 interface and already delivered with two small bell-type armature motors from the ALX series.

If you are interested, we recommend placing your order quickly! We only have a few units available and expect the small post-production series to sell out quickly.

The first electric trams! The first Vienna tram line to be electrified by the Vienna Tramway Company (WT) was the ‘Northern Transversal Line’. This was a combination of sections previously operated as horse-drawn tramways, which Viennese people today associate with parts of lines 2, 5, or O. The prerequisite for the conversion was the construction of the Leopoldstadt power station, which initially supplied the necessary energy.

    2025-10-16

Improved new edition of a legend! When it became apparent in the 1970s that freight and passenger transport on the StLB would have to be separated in order to reduce journey times, the management of the state railways decided to develop a railcar with diesel-electric power transmission. The contract for its manufacture was awarded to the Vienna-based company Knotz, which at that time was known for producing custom designs in rail vehicle construction, even in small quantities. The first railcar was delivered to the Murtalbahn in the fall of 1980. Many more examples of this vehicle family were to follow until 1999, going to the StLB, the Zillertalbahn, and the ÖBB.
