News 2021.07 - Stuttgart War Tram 749
The first new KSW in Stuttgart since 1949!
The KSW or Kriegsstraßenbahnwagen (War Tram Car) was designed as replacement for the wagons destroyed in World War II: material-saving lightweight construction, easy to maintain, and with plenty of standing room and thus a high number of passengers. Around 700 of the mostly wooden wagons were delivered to over 20 cities, including Stuttgart, Munich and Cologne, between 1943 and 1950.

The KSW 749 is actually not from Stuttgart but from Heidelberg! It is now being exemplaryly restored in order to drive through Stuttgart as the new KSW 749.
The new model of the 749 was designed almost as lovingly by HALLING Modelle in cooperation with the SHB team and reflects many of the typical details. Dainty accessories made of metal simulate the roof lantern and handle bars in the interior, and an extensive decal sheet allows easy customization of the extraordinary small series model. The current series is severely limited and can also be purchased in the shop of the Stuttgarter Historische Straßenbahnen e.V. can be purchased!

23 KSW had been delivered to the SSB by 1949. From 1955 to 1957, the vehicles were fundamentally modernized. But at the end of 1969 even the last wagons were parked and scrapped. The KSW 749 is therefore not actually a Stuttgart but a Heidelberg work car with the number 64. It was taken over by SHB in the 1990s and is now being refurbished.
The Stuttgart KSW did not have the number 749, as the cars only had the numbers 726 to 748. Since it is not an original SSB-KSW, it was decided to give the vehicle the number 749.
